Colchester
firm Wallis Shipping Services and its IT division, Dominion,
has just received a DTI SMART award of £45,000 to
carry out crucial development work to its export management
software ‘Exportease’.
Dominion is one of 14 Essex companies to receive a SMART
award in 2002. The award will be used by Dominion, based
on the Severall's Business Park, to carry out a feasibility
study into developing a supply chain solution for importers
and exporters. The programme will enable companies to have
accurate information about where each of their orders are
at any moment in time. It means that a firm can monitor
all aspects of its supply chain by the touch of a button
rather than wading through paperwork and relying on people's
memory.
Director of Dominion, Paul Lasky, said: "We are thrilled
with this SMART award from the DTI. We have already established
a need in the industry to physically track orders through
the supply chain. We shall look at creating a multilingual
interrogating system that has the capability of extracting
information at any time during the shipping process.
"Dominion intend 'Exportease' to be a web based solution
that will use the very latest in global technology to ensure
cargoes can be tracked anywhere in the world.
